THOUGHT OF THE DAY

                                Life
Life is not just party and pleasure, it is also pain and despair. Unthinkable things happen. Sometimes everything turns upside down. Bad things happen to good people. Some things are beyond  control, such as physical disability and birth defects. If the ball bounced the wrong way for you. What do you do from that point on-
Cry or take the ball and run?

                                            STORY

                                          The Present...

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room's only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation. Every afternoon when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing the scenes and sounds of the world outside.

The man in the other bed began to live, for those one-hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and colour of the world outside. The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Grand old trees graced the landscape, and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance.

As the man by the window described all this in exquisite detail, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine the picturesque scene. Days and weeks passed. One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep.

As soons as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up to take his first look at the world outside. It faced a blank wall. The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate to describe such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to make you happy."

The richest person in the world is one who knows how to make each moment happy for the self and others. Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

Live by your values
we pride ourselves on our heritage and deep routed values which guide us through the life’s major challenges and quandaries and help us lead a meaningful life. But these values not magically pass on from one generation to another. Building and living by our values needs lot of conscious efforts such as:
1)      Read a lot: Be it religious texts ,true life stories, text books or fiction work, reading brings us face to face with the outside world .It exposes us to new ideas, to the triumphs and tribulations of others ,and different ways of looking at the world.
2)      Spend time with grand-parents: Our values are not passed on to us by parents, but rather from our grandparents. Their simple stories can bring complex morals and values alive; their experiences can teach us more than text books .
3)      Think about others: Our values turn into actions when we go beyond ourselves and think about others as well. Consider about the feeling of others before acting. Think of how would you have felt if the same had been done to you.
4)      Become responsible: There is no better way to learn than from our experiences .Our lives are fraught with moments when we question our ethics and values. Take responsibilities of your actions and decisions.
5)      Be open: Values are not just some sentences meant to be blindly imbibed or accepted. Instead, discuss concerns and dilemmas with your parents and teachers and ask pertinent questions.
6)      Have meaningful discussions with your peers: Our peers are individual who are similar to us in many ways and different – with diverse families and backgrounds. Engaging in meaningful discussions with them can open you up to newer ideas and perspectives.
7)      Become involve in something that appeals to you and helps others: There is great satisfaction in helping others. Think of an activity that you enjoy that can still help someone else- be it community service, assisting a classmate in maths, giving music classes with limited means.
8)      Be honest to yourself: Our values are not rules imposed on us by our parents, teachers or priests. They are what we hold to be most important in ourselves. We all make mistakes, but accepting them and being honest with ourselves is the only way to become better human beings.
9)   Think for yourself: Don’t do things under pressure simply because others ask you to or you see others around you do it. Think critically and think for yourself. Do what your conscience tell you to do.
10)   Value the means, not just the end: There are times when we are tempted to compromise on the means to reach the end. But winning may not always justify the costs. Life is not just about what we achieve, but rather how we achieved it.

                                                        STORY
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. So the professor then picked up a box of small pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous "Yes." The professor then produced two cans of beer from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed.
"Now", said the professor, as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things - your family, your children, your health, your friends, your favorite passions - things that, if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, your car.
The sand is everything else - the small stuff. If you put the sand into the jar first" he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. There will always be time to clean the house, and fix the rubbish. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand".

SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS GO HAND IN HAND

“Success is not the key to happiness.Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful”

Success means different things to different people. To some people, success might mean wealth. To others, it is happiness, good health, peace of mind, good family ,good health, satisfaction, excellent job. Success is getting what you want.
Success means to freely bloom. Success is a journey not a destination. So keep your journey continue and get as much as happiness as you can. As before setting off for  the journey we do arrangements and make sure that every thing has been at proper place to avoid the inconvenience. Same thing is required for the journey of success.

Story of two frogs in the milk
This is the story of two frogs. One frog was fat and the other skinny. One day, while searching for food, they inadvertently jumped into a vat of milk. They couldn't get out, as the sides were too slippery, so they were just swimming around.
The fat frog said to the skinny frog, "Brother frog, there's no use paddling any longer. We're just going to drown, so we might as well give up." The skinny frog replied, "Hold on brother, keep paddling. Somebody will get us out." And they continued paddling for hours.
After a while, the fat frog said, "Brother frog, there's no use. I'm becoming very tired now. I'm just going to stop paddling and drown. It's Sunday and nobody's working. We're doomed. There's no possible way out of here." But the skinny frog said, "Keep trying. Keep paddling. Something will happen, keep paddling." Another couple of hours passed.
The fat frog said, "I can't go on any longer. There's no sense in doing it because we're going to drown anyway. What's the use?" And the fat frog stopped. He gave up. And he drowned in the milk. But the skinny frog kept on paddling.
Ten minutes later, the skinny frog felt something solid beneath his feet. He had churned the milk into butter and he hopped out of the vat.
All who would win joy must share it; happiness was born a twin."
Let’s work together to change your surroundings at work. My job is to get you on a better path to happiness, and therefore…success.
Happiness and Wellness to you,Sushma

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

LEARN TO BECOME VICTORS NOT VICTIMS
One who defeats an adversary is a victor.

Our society is full of people who, through their own limiting beliefs, have settled into becoming victims of their circumstances. They feel powerless to make changes in their lives because they think that the elements of their lives are out of their control. They have a hard time taking responsibility for themselves, their actions, mistakes, and even their own decisions. In short, being a victim requires a giving up of most, if not all, personal responsibility. .The victors choose to show up victorious, always growing from their experiences. Victims choose to be defeated by them.

Destiny is not a matter of chance,it is a matter of choice.it is not a thing to be waited for,it is a thing to be achieved.

Qualities of a victor
1)STRONG DETERMINATION
Most people give up when they are about to achieve. They quit on the one yard line.they give up at the last minute of the gole, one foot from a winning touchdown.Strong determination is a power buster for success. The people who succeed in life are not extraordinary human beings. They are as simple like us; however they are highly determined towards their goal. Determination provides us with a strong force which helps us in conquering our goals. Many talents fail in this world because they do not have strong determination required for success. It is very difficult in this world to succeed if we do not have determination.
2)HARD WORK
Nature gives birds their food but does not put it in their nests. They have to work hard for it.We must learn a lesson from the honey bee, ants. success, fortunes and dreams aren’t created by themselves. They are created by work.

The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary
There are only 24 hours in a day. We all get those same 24 hours right? So, whether you get rich or whether you get broke is a measure of what you have done with your 24 hours. Success, the same as failure, doesn’t happen overnight or in one swift decision. It happens by one small act or failure to act, There are only 24 hours in a day. We all get those same 24 hours right? So, whether you get rich or whether you get broke is a measure of what you have done with your 24 hours. Success, the same as failure, doesn’t happen overnight or in one swift decision. It happens by one small act or failure to act,
3)EXCELLENT PLANNER

Successful people do not do different things .They just do the things differently. The quality of doing the work differently make them a winner and take them very high from a common man. They are not ten times smarter than the people who fail. They may be fractionally better, but the rewards they get are many times better.

  4)CLEAR VISION
Whatever you know as the highest, just seek that out. It does not matter whether it is going to happen or not going to happen. Living with the vision itself is very elevating, very liberating, is a joyous process for any person. Whether it is going to happen tomorrow or after hundred years is not the point. You have a vision and you are not concerned about whether it is possible or not possible. You are not concerned whether it is easy or difficult, whether it is attainable or not attainable; you are not concerned about the end result. You just have a vision and you give your life towards it. This is one of the easiest ways to attain the highest to simply give yourself to what you want, not caring whether it is going to happen or not going to happen. This is a spiritual process by itself

5)DEVOTION AND DEDICATION

Determination is much like dedication Devotion is also related to both determination and dedication.  Devotion is a profound or sacred dedication – something that arises from the heart and is difficult to put into words. It propels us into action, as determination does.  Devotion moves us into action from the heart, while determination moves us from the mind.

                                                    Story

One day, a train was approaching the small town of Cheekyville. On the train was a strange guy with a big suitcase. He was called William Warbler - the man, not the suitcase - and he looked very common indeed. What made him most unusual, though, was the fact that whenever he needed to communicate he did it by singing opera. It didn't matter to William whether it was simply a matter of answering a brief greeting, like 'good day'. He would clear his voice and respond,"Gooood dayyy to youuuuuuuu..... tooOOOO!"It wouldn't be unfair to say that almost everyone considered William Warbler a massive pain in the neck. No one could get a normal, spoken, word out of him. And, as no one knew how he made his living - and he lived quite simply, always wearing his same old second-hand suit - they often treated him with disdain. They made fun of his singing, calling him 'Don No One', 'Poor-Rotti', and 'Lazy Miserables'. William had been in Cheekyville for some years, when, one day, a rumour spread round town like wildfire: William had secured a role in a very important opera in the nation's capital, and there were posters everywhere advertising the event. Everyone in the capital went to see it, and it was a great success. At the end of its run - to everyone in Cheekyville's surprise - when William was being interviewed by reporters, he answered their questions by speaking rather than singing. And he did it with great courtesy, and with a clears and pleasant voice. From that day, William gave up singing at all hours. Now he did it only during his stage appearances and world tours. Some people suspected why he had changed, but others still had no idea, and continued believing him to be somewhat mad. They wouldn't have thoughtso if they had seen what William kept in his big suitcase. It was a large stone, with a hand-carved message on it.

The message said: "Practice, my boy. Practice every second, for you never know when your chance will come."

Little did people realise that he only got the role in the opera because the director had heard William singing while out buying a newspaper.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

TWO MEN SEE THROUGH THE SAME BARS.
ONE SEES THE MUD AND OTHER SEES THE STARS.
It is only because of attitude.
What is attitude
Attitudes are the views of a person whether positive or negative. Attitude is an inward feeling in outward behaviour A person with positive attitude is like a fruit of all seasons. He is always welcome. People with positive attitude have certain personality traits that are easily recognized. They are caring, confident, patient  and  humble If the attitude is positive, it brings happiness, success, satisfaction, winning , admiration, leadership and much more freedom: Freedom from worries, frustration, and fear. In short positive attitude means: Many  wonderful Positive things.
Factors that determine attitude.
It is said many times:"Oh, she acts just like her mom."
It means attitude is learned behaviour? Most of our attitudes were shaped during our formative years. But there are still some factors that determine our attitude formation. the most important factor is environment .Environment means the house ,the school, the workplace, our  neighbours, our cultural, religious, social and traditional  beliefs . Second most important factor is experience. Our behaviour changes according to our experience with various people. Events and experiences become reference points in our lives, we draw conclusions which become our guidelines in future and decide our attitude. Education not only make us able to earn but also teaches how to live. So the role of education is vital to make our attitude
Positive attitude benefits in many ways
.It makes your personality pleasing.
Helps you become a contributing  member of society and an asset of country.
It increase the productivity if you work for an organisation
It solved problems.
Increases profits and reduces stress.
And breeds loyalty also.

Consequences of negative attitude
If your attitude is negative, your life is restrict.
Your success at work will be limited.
You will have fewer friends.
Your enjoyment in life will be less.
It will cause high stress level for themselves and others.
Life would become purposeless.

The Starfish Story(a story on attitude)
An elderly man was walking along the beach, admiring the beautiful view. As he walked, he noticed that a large group of starfishes had been washed ashore by the receding tide, and they were struggling to get back to the water. The man was saddened by this turn of events, but accepted that there was nothing he could do to change anything.
The man walked on, continuing to notice the large numbers of helpless starfishes, until he saw another man in the distance standing at the water’s edge amongst the starfishes. Curious, the elderly man walked over to him, wandering what he was up to.
As he got closer, the elderly man could see that the younger man was picking up starfishes, one by one, and throwing them back out into the sea. Astonished, the elderly man got close enough for the other man to hear him, and then he called out.
“Hey! What on earth are you doing?”
The younger man turned to him and smiled, then turned back to the sea, still continuing his duty of picking up and throwing starfishes.
“I’m helping these starfishes get back into the ocean.”
The elderly man couldn’t believe it, why was this man wasting his time throwing starfishes back? There were thousands of them here, it would take him days! He voiced his thoughts.
“Why are you throwing them back? There’s thousands of them here, it’ll take you forever! How can you possibly hope to make a difference to these starfishes?”
Remaining calm, the younger man continued his duty without looking at the elderly man. Just as he threw another starfish back into the ocean, he replied.
“I made a difference to that one.”
what do you think?

                                     Know Yourself

To know yourself is your first priority.

How can you set goals, go about life, and have relationships if you don't know who you are or what you want? You really can't.
To not know yourself leads to confusion and wasting much time in hit and miss situations.
We tend to underestimate the importance of knowing ourselves. Many of us go through each day reacting to events and just getting by rather than making conscious choices based on who we are and what we want.
When we don't know where we are headed it's hard to set goals, get motivated and determine the best course of action. Before we can do any of these things we must establish who we are.
To know yourself:
• Be aware of your strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes
• Observe and be aware of your moods, reactions and responses to what is happening around you
• Become aware of how these moods and emotions affect your state of mind
• Examine how you interact with others
• Observe how your environment affects you
Knowing and understanding yourself better, in turn, leads to better decision making, setting and reaching appropriate goals and altogether living more productively.
There are many interesting personality tests and evaluations for self-discovery that can help you become more in tune to yourself and are fun to do.
